What's New
| New CCHR members Professor Mike Oxley has rejoined the Centre for Comparative Housing Research. His research is concerned with the economics of housing markets, housing policy and residential development. He is particularly interested in European comparative analyses of these issues and in the potential for housing development in urban areas. He is also interested in the links between planning processes and housing provision. He is also a Member of the Strategic Board for Nottingham City Homes.

Nicola Yates (Chief Executive of North Shropshire District Council) has joined the Centre as an Honorary Research Associate. She was previously Services Director at Harborough District Council. Her areas of expertise include choice-based lettings, rural housing, local government and change management.

Research into Gypsies and Travellers Dr Jo Richardson has been awarded a £47,000 grant from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation to undertake a study called 'Contentious Spaces - The Gypsy/Traveller Site Issue'.

Jo has also written a paper on the policing of Gypsies and Travellers, which was given in a plenary session to the Housing Studies Association conference at the beginning of September 2005 - the paper is available on the HSA website www.york.ac.uk/inst/chp/hsa/autumn05/programme.htm.
Posted: 26.09.05 DMU research quoted in Hansard questions Research by CCHR and the Health Policy Research Unit was the subject of a Parliamentary Question on 18 July 2005. Sarah Teather, Liberal Democrat MP for Brent East, asked the Deputy Prime Minster about the effects of living in overcrowded accommodation and was referred to the report, Impact of Overcrowding on Health and Education, published in May 2004.
